MUSEUM AND CAMPUS
Pulitzer Arts Foundation
ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI
2021–2023
AK Cultural Planning has been collaborating with staff leadership and the Pulitzer Board of Directors to articulate a long-term vision and implementation plan that will integrate international curatorial leadership and next-generation museum practice with regional interests and opportunities.
The planning process began by detailing the “DNA” of the organization at its founding in 2001, as well as an artistic signature that defines the Pulitzer today. The remainder of the project focused on:
Assessing internal structure, staff satisfaction, and mission-based activities including exhibitions, programs, and partnerships
Assessing the external context, including market snapshot, benchmarking against other relevant museums, case studies of institutional evolution, and thought-leader convenings to introduce additional perspectives
Analyzing options for future directions and projects and aligning decision-makers around the optimal solutions
Articulating a unique market position regionally, nationally, and internationally
Creating an implementation framework for phased growth, with order-of-magnitude impacts on the annual operating budget and capital cost estimates provided by Directional Logic.
The Vision and Planning Framework will provide a solid foundation as the organization continues to mature.
